Crying Roots

This series began after an invitation to participate in a local group show inspired by the consequences of genetic modification of foods. The exhibition was titled, "proseeding..." and was associated with the University of Guelph's research programs and took place at the Barber Gallery in Guelph. The tears of the crying roots convey an unknown sense of fear of what was to come as a result of the genetic modification.  The cross-sections of the earth contain other integrated imagery related to themes of preservation, decay and regrowth. The trees are digital photos of local trees that have been manipulated with acrylic mixed media. Some of these landscapes hint at the future interest in quilt patterns and more obvious textural experiments.
